Host parameters

This page lists every parameter ScratchCraft shows to your DAW, grouped the way hosts list them. Use it when you automate ScratchCraft, map it with your DAW’s own MIDI mapping, or set up a control surface.

Parameter names are shown here as your host displays them, with “Deck A” standing for “Deck A” or “Deck B”, and “Pad 1” for any pad from 1 to 32.

Name Range Default Notes
Mode Shape, Rack, Mix, Effects Shape The visible tab. Not automatable.
Shape Snap 1/4, 1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32, 1/2, 1/32T 1/16 The Shape editor’s grid. Editing only; doesn’t affect pad timing.
Pad Quantize Off, 1/32T, 1/32, 1/16T, 1/16, 1/8T, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, Bar, 2 Bars 1/16 The rack-wide quantize that pads set to Global follow.
Shape Play Off / On Off The Shape editor’s Play switch.
DAW Sync Off / On Off Follow the host’s play and stop. See DAW Sync.
Name Range Default Notes
Crossfader 0 to 1 0.5 (centre) 0 is the deck A side, 1 the deck B side (swapped by Crossfader Reverse).
Crossfader Curve Linear, Constant Power, Fast Cut Fast Cut
Crossfader Reverse Off / On Off The hamster switch.
Input Monitor 0 to 100 % 0 % The header’s Input knob: how loud you hear the capture input.

Each deck has the same 21 parameters, named “Deck A …” and “Deck B …”.

Name Range Default Notes
Deck A Speed −50 to +50 % 0 % Motor speed; pitch follows, as on vinyl.
Deck A Motor Off / On Off Arms the motor.
Deck A Motor Torque 10 to 2000 ms 250 ms The Torque knob: how quickly the motor spins up.
Deck A Gain −60 to +12 dB 0 dB

Deck A Cue 0 to 100 % 0 % The cue marker, as a share of the sample’s length.
Deck A End 0 to 100 % 100 % The end marker, as a share of the sample’s length.
Deck A Scratch −1 to +1 0 The hand’s position around the cue point, up to one record turn either side.
Deck A Touch Off / On Off Hand on the record. On makes the deck follow Scratch.
Deck A HPF Frequency 20 Hz to 20 kHz 20 Hz (open)
Deck A HPF Resonance 0 to 100 % 0 %
Deck A HPF Type 12 dB, 24 dB, Ladder 24 dB
Deck A LPF Frequency 20 Hz to 20 kHz 20 kHz (open)
Deck A LPF Resonance 0 to 100 % 0 %
Deck A LPF Type 12 dB, 24 dB, Ladder 24 dB
Deck A EQ Low Kill (−40 dB) to +6 dB 0 dB
Deck A EQ Mid Kill (−40 dB) to +6 dB 0 dB
Deck A EQ High Kill (−40 dB) to +6 dB 0 dB

Scratch and Touch together are the hand on the record. When you drag a platter on screen near the cue point, ScratchCraft reports both to the host, so a hand scratch can be recorded as automation and played back. While you hold the platter, the deck follows your mouse and ignores the automation; on playback, Touch on makes the deck follow Scratch.

Each pad has nine parameters, named “Pad 1 …” to “Pad 32 …”. They are not automatable: hosts leave them out of their automation lists. Set them in the rack’s pad inspector, or map them with MIDI Learn.

Name Range Default Notes
Pad 1 Pitch −12 to +12 st 0 st
Pad 1 Rate 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x 1x Shape pads.

Pad 1 Level 0 to 200 % 100 % 200 % is about +6 dB.
Pad 1 Speed 0.25x to 4x 1x One-shots.

Pad 1 Filter Resonance 0 to 100 % 0 % Mono, Poly and Platter one-shots.

Each deck’s effect rack has 63 parameters, all automatable. The rack switch is Deck A FX (Off / On, default On). Every unit then has an On switch (default Off) and a Mix, followed by its own controls. Names follow the pattern “Deck A Unit Control”, for example Deck A Tape Echo Time.

Some things in ScratchCraft are set only in its own window and saved with the project, not exposed to the host:

  • Playing pads. Pads are triggered by MIDI notes, not parameters.
  • Pad settings other than the nine above: the pad mode, Shape, sample and its Start and End, target deck, release, choke group, velocity, envelope, one-shot options and utility actions.
  • Capture, the capture and take lengths, and recording takes.
  • The Shape editor: Shapes, their nodes and the technique generator.
  • Samples: which sample is loaded, its tempo, beat grid and musical key, and the deck Edit menu.
  • The Feel options, the MIDI map, session states and slots.
  • The standalone app’s tempo, time signature and click.

ScratchCraft’s own MIDI Learn can still reach many of these: pad notes, session slot recalls, rack banks, capture and the deck jog, scratch and touch targets.
