Default mappings

ScratchCraft comes with a small set of MIDI mappings so a basic keyboard or controller does something useful straight away. This page lists them, along with the pads’ default notes.

MIDI source Target How it behaves
CC 1 (mod wheel) Crossfader Knob / fader (absolute), Jump takeover.
Pitch wheel Deck B Scratch Absolute scratch, ±0.25 seconds around the cue point, Anchor at grab on.
CC 16 Deck A Jog Encoder / jog (relative), Offset 64 encoding.
CC 17 Deck B Jog Encoder / jog (relative), Offset 64 encoding.

These listen on any MIDI channel.

With just a keyboard, the mod wheel works the crossfader and the pitch wheel scratches deck B: load a sample on deck B, push the crossfader towards B, and move the pitch wheel. Because the scratch is anchored at grab, it starts from wherever the record is.

The two jog mappings suit controllers that send their jog wheels on CC 16 and CC 17 in offset-64 form. If yours sends something else, learn the jogs again; see Jog wheels.

The 32 pads play on MIDI notes C1 to G3 (notes 36 to 67, using Ableton’s note names). Pad 1 is C1, pad 2 is C#1, and so on up to pad 32 on G3. Pads 1 and 17 sit bottom-left in their banks.

Pad notes are set per pad rather than as mappings. To change one, right-click the pad and choose Learn Note, then play a note. The rack’s MIDI selector sets the channel the pads listen on (Any by default). See Pads and banks.

Open MIDI Map in the header and click Reset Defaults. After you confirm, all your mappings are replaced with the four above. Pad notes are not affected.

To start with no mappings at all, click Clear All instead.
